MB Envirotech Ltd has the specialist equipment to remove contaminants from groundwater by oxidising the target contaminant or contaminants with a chemical oxidant (e.g. H2O2). This is called Chemical Oxidation. The reaction destroys the organic compounds producing harmless end products of water and carbon dioxide. Oxidation can also be applied thermally, destroying contaminants in the exhaust gas from air strippers or SVE systems or it can be applied through the use of catalysts.
Applicability
The typical target contaminant groups suitable for remediation via oxidation are non-halogenated VOCs and SVOCs and fuel hydrocarbons.
Chemical Oxidation
Chemical oxidation involves the injection of reactive chemical oxidants directly into soil or groundwater for the rapid destruction of contaminants. Chemical oxidation is often deployed as part of a remediation scheme for ‘polishing’ of another remedial scheme e.g. bioremediation or pump and treat.
Catalytic Oxidation
Catalyst systems used to oxidize VOCs typically use metal oxides such as nickel oxide, copper oxide, manganese dioxide, or chromium oxide. Noble metals may also be used.
Limitations
There are many factors that may limit the applicability or effectiveness of oxidation solutions and so consultation with our technical specialists is always required prior to implementation.
Please call or e-mail to discuss the applicability of this technique to one of your sites.
